Football Scouting Software

Football is all about timing. Not just the timing that is required between the offensive line and the running back, or between the safeties and linebackers on a blitz play, but also the timing of the coach to choose the right plays at the right time. The difference between success and failure rides upon play selection more than any other factor.

Having great plays in your arsenal is one thing, but knowing when to use them is something completely different. If you can catch the other team off guard, you can change the course of the game in one play. For a century, coaches have tried to master this art, but the reality is that effective play calling is a very difficult thing to do consistently.

You now have a new ally in this hundred-yard game of war, and it is in the form of your computer. Football Tools has created football scouting software that helps you analyze your play selection so that you can become more unpredictable to opposing coaches. Footbal Scouting software can help you track your plays and get you more organized and coordinated.

Controlled chaos is a good phrase which to describe to Chalk Talk football scouting software. Simply, it help you get a handle on dozens of plays by telling you which plays you run and when. For instance, it will tell you your top 10 plays on 3rd and 10, or your most popular pass plays in the red zone. This is useful stuff, and it will help you immensely on the field.

As a coach, make sure you have all the football coaching tools you need to win!

Football Defense Gap 8

Digg me

Gap 8 Defense

The Gap-8 and 10-1 names are really misnomers. My defense is, at times a Gap-8, a 10-1, and sometimes even a 9-1-1 or a 7-3-1. It depends on the offensive formation. The name gap-8 is from the old days when the offense was almost always in a full house T-formation with two tight ends and the defense was truly in a gap-8. Nowadays, with offenses using multiple formations, the gap-8 is really just a basic concept that gave its name to multiple grandchildren that are not gap-8’s per se, but are related to the original gap-8.

Gap-air-mirror defense

A better name for the defense I advocate would be the gap-air-mirror defense.

Gap refers to the fact that you put four down linemen in four-point stances in the A and B gaps. The A gaps are the gaps on either side of the middle offensive lineman. The B gaps are one gap outside the A gaps.

Air refers to the fact that you line your contain guys up on air. It is common in other defenses to line them up on the outside shoulder of the tight end or weak tackle. When the contain men are lined up on the outside shoulder of the tight end or weak tackle, they have dual responsibility for both the C (off-tackle) and D (sweep) gaps. But in youth football, the sweep is the dominant play, so you should give your contain men only one responsibility: the D gap or sweep. Lining them up on air (just outside the tight end, wing, or weak tackle) helps them stop the sweep.

Mirror refers to where the defensive backs line up and what their responsibility is. The five defensive backs line up more or less on the five eligible receivers. The quarterback is a sixth eligible receiver, but he cannot receive a pass as long as he has possession of the ball. (He must be covered as a receiver if he hands, pitches, or passes the ball to another player as long as the ball remains behind the line of scrimmage.) They are in man pass coverage. That is, wherever their man goes, in pre-snap motion or post-snap play execution, they go with him, until the ball crosses the line of scrimmage, at which time they go to the ball. If the offense bunches backs in the backfield, sound defensive principles warrant converting the gap-8 or 10-1 to a 9-1-1 in the case of a youth pro-set I or a 7-3-1 in the case of a youth single wing. I use the adjective youth here to mean weak passing game.

Must be in man pass coverage

Several defensive principles must be kept in mind. One is that once you have a six-man rush, you generally are forced into man pass coverage. You no longer have enough guys left to cover all the zones. Thats just as well because man is the simplest to understand and suits youth football for that and other reasons.

Must match offensive numbers on each side of ball

Another principle is that your defensive alignment must match the offense in terms of number of guys to the right and left of the ball. That requires rough mirroring. Otherwise, they could always run to the side where they had you outnumbered. The single wing worked so well for us because our opponents stayed in a 5-3-3 balanced on the ball or even shifted one man to the strong side against our unbalanced line, which had four guys on one side of the ball and only two on the other. In addition to our line being mostly to one side of the ball, our backs were all on that long side as well.

For example, in right formation, we had 2.5 guys to the left of the ball (guard, left tight end, and half of the center), but our opponents typically had 4 guys to our left (corner, end, tackle, linebacker). So they had us outnumbered on the side we were not going to run to and we had them outnumbered (8.5 to 7) on the side we were going to run to. Furthermore, all our guys were near the point of attack, but several of theirs were far away (free safety, outside linebacker, corner). It is impossible to stay in a gap-8 or 10-1 per se and remain balanced with the offense as to numbers of players to the right and left of the ball against all offensive formations. If the offense packs one area behind the O-line, the defense will have to stack itself three ranks deep.

Offensive formation dictates defensive alignment

Also, even when you can be in a two-rank defense like the gap-8 or 10-1, you cannot always choose one or the other. Many coaches have told me they use the gap-8 rather than the 10-1 because they are more conservative. It doesn’t work that way in the case of many offensive formations. The only difference between the 10-1 and gap-8 is bump-and-run alignment on wide receivers. Whether you bump or let the receivers release freely is a minor issue. Whether you are in a gap-8 or 10-1 is primarily a matter of the offensive formation, not the conservatism of the coach. I also take issue with this use of the word conservatism.

I am trying to win the game when I coach—not be conservative or aggressive. I put the corners in bump and run versus the wideouts because I think that has the best chance of succeeding. Most youth coaches do not practice receiver-release techniques. Also, with the gap-air defensive rush, we force the passer to get rid of the ball quickly, so it makes sense to delay the receivers whenever possible. Running a gap-8 when a 10-1 is permissible increases the chances of the receiver getting a quick, clean release. I do not see that as conservative. Rather it just sounds less likely to succeed than the 10-1. I will agree that the 10-1 is more likely than the gap-8 to be criticized by the parents and other coaches, which I think is the real reason some coaches prefer the gap-8.

The offensive formation dictates which defensive alignment you must be in. For example, against a full-house (fullback and two halfbacks in the backfield), double-tight-end T formation, a 10-1 would be too strong out wide and not strong enough in the middle, where the offensive strength is concentrated. Vacaville won our league championship in 1990 with a full-house, double-tight-end T that never ran outside the tight ends. Most of their opponents were 5-3-3 teams that had corners and linebackers defending the two flanks that Vacaville never ran to.

Prevent inside releases

Finally, when you are in man coverage, you need to prevent inside releases by pass receivers. So in general, the defender covering the receiver should line up to the inside. Against a tight end or wing, you line up nose up because it is a bit crowded in there with other defenders on either side of you. But against a split end (on the line of scrimmage) you line up on his inside shoulder in bump-and-run alignment. (Bump and run is another misnomer. The defender waits to see where the receiver goes and gives him a shot with one hand once he commits. Or he can fake that. There are several variations, but none of them has the defender bumping the receiver with his shoulder pads.) Against a flanker (wide receiver who is a yard back off the line of scrimmage), you line up in a walk-away position (at a 45-degree angle to the inside).

Fantasy Football Trouncing Your Buddies

1
Digg me

Fantasy football fans will be scouring all the usual suspects for football facts, predictions, myths, legends and lies during the preseason. Not just because football fans are info junkies, but because they plan on trouncing their coworkers, neighbors, and in-laws in the next season of fantasy football leagues. Crazy fools that they are will probably find nothing but reams and reams of statistics. So unless they all received a PHD in statistical analysis during their drunken college years, they really wont be any further ahead then you my dear reader. Becuase, we are not going to be taking statistics here, instead we’re unveiling the deepest darkest secrets of winning football fantasy leagues. And you my dear reader will be able to mount a masterful trouncing of all your coworkers, neighbors, and in-laws during the next fantasy football season.

Football Winning Ways

You don’t have to be a big time winner in previous football fantasy leagues to win this season. Your about to benefit from the experience of past fantasy football winners right here, and right now. Strategically, tactically, and otherwise, information is knowledge. So if this is your first time at fantasy football, read on, and prepare to exercise your winning ways.

Digging for Distance

Don’t just go for the big names in the fantasy football draft. Sure enough the top ten obvious players will go fast and everyone will be looking to get as many of these guys as they can. But that’s easy, giving a little more thought and making smart choices with the second and third stringers will really build a football team with depth. That way, when your stars do down, and you can bet at least one of them will, you’ll be prepared. Keep on eye out for up and comers, who haven’t hit their full potential, or maybe just haven’t been given a chance to show their stuff because of stronger players ahead of them. It’s smart drafting for depth that separates the men from the boys in this game.

Devilish Little Details

Once the teams are stacked, stay on top of things, and pay attention to the little stuff. A great deep team, like the one you should have picked will be a handful to manage. So many good player to choose from and properly assign. Everybody team matches up differently against other teams, and the same can be said for players. Every player and team has their own strength and weakness. Consider everything. Not just how well a player did last week, but how well a player did, who they played for, what conditions they played under, and how those considerations will factor into this weeks games. Fantasy football, just like real football, is won by playing smart and taking calculated risks when the setting is right.

A Player To Be Named Later

to the table, and see if you can make a good season, a great season. Trading for the coming weeks games, is just as important as trading for the rest of the season. If someone can help you this week, go for it, and dump them later. It’s not like your really uprooting the poor Trades are important to. If your team is deep and you’ve got more good players then you can handle (yea right), then maybe it’s time to bring your negotiating skills smuck and dragging his kids out of the best private school in the country.

Let The Good Times Roll

And hey, remember it’s just a game. Fantasy football can be fun for everyone, beginners and pros alike. It’s not about the money, it’s about crushing your closest friends. Oh yea, and the fantasy football grand prize winner money helps to.

Super Bowl Sunday: Keep It Simple and Plentiful!

1
Digg me

Super Bowl Parties are the easiest kind. The schedule is set and well-defined. The only entertainment you need to provide is a good working television, the bigger the better, and plenty of food ready on trays, so it is easy for the crowd to eat whenever they want. In fact, if you are not a football fan, you can prepare all this ahead of time, make it easily accessible, provide paper towels, coasters, and a big trash can within field goal range, and have some time to yourself, whether it is curling up with a good book, shopping or whatever you would like to do. By making this party fun, easy and self service you will have given yourself a holiday too!

Get a large ice chest, and have plenty of soda, water, and/or beer, and the gang can help themselves to drinks. Plenty of coffee table foods like pretzels, chips, dips, and individually wrapped, hearty sandwiches, make it easy to access, and there is little chance for big spills or mishaps. Hand held desserts, like hello dollies, lemon bars, or sliced pound cake and fruit, are good choices to satisfy sweet tooths, but you are probably not going to get many complaints even if the desserts you serve are bowls full of candy bars.

Other options are crock pot chili with crackers, corn chips, and cheese beside it, for creating Frito pies, always goes over well. Sandwiches of thick-sliced ham and sharp, tangy cheese, on thick slices of whole wheat bread, are sure super bowl menu treats. Smoked turkey breast slices on potato bread with creamy Swiss cheese are good super bowl sandwich choices too.

Crock Pot Layer Dip: one pound of Velveeta cheese, 2 cans of diced tomatoes with green chilies, made into the classic cheese dip recipe, and set aside. 6 boneless chicken breasts, boiled in salted water until done, drained, and shredded, then put into a pan with 2 cups of water and 2 packets of taco seasoning mix simmered until the water is cooked out, and the chicken is dry.

1 can refried beans on top of the chicken
1 large can of tamales, cut into half inch chunks and topped with prepared cheese dip

Options:
This dip can include a layer of black olives, topped with sour cream, or topped with guacamole dip.

Guacamole dip:
6 soft, ripe, avacados, peeled and seeded (if the are very soft, you can use a potato masher, if not a blender or food processor can be used)
1 Cup real mayonnaise
chopped sweet onion
1-2 finely chopped roma tomato
dash of tabasco
teaspoon of lemon juice
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 Tablespoon Fruit Fresh (to prevent browning)
salt and pepper to taste.

Blend avacado, mayo, lemon, spices, and garlic. Fold in tomato and onion, serve as a topping on the layer dip, with tortilla chips.

Quarterbacks: C+

Drew Bledsoe: D+
Tony Romo: B

Bledsoe simply wasn’t getting the job done. He was holding on to the ball too long, and making too many mistakes. While I’m being cautious, Tony Romo appears to have what it takes to be a quality starting quarterback. He seems to know what he is doing out there already, and the scary part is that he will only get better. His grade could be higher, but there is still a chance some of the mistakes like he made in the Giants game will come back at some point this season. He has looked like a seasoned vet in his two starts, but I’m sure there will are some forgettable moments yet to come.

Running Backs: B+

Julius Jones: B+
Marion Barber: B+
Oliver Hoyte: B

You can’t complain about the performance of the two running backs. They aren’t making big plays all by themselves, but with a hole they will get the job done. Jones has stayed healthy and ran pretty well. Barber is the perfect No. 2 back with his power, hands, and blocking skills. Hoyte, the former LB, is doing a good job as the lead blocker. He has actually stolen a lot of playing time from Fasano in recent weeks. He has plenty of power in his blocks, and he is a great special teams player.

Receivers: B-

Terrell Owens: C+
Terry Glenn: A-
Patrick Crayton: C+
Jason Witten: B-
Anthony Fasano: C

This receiving corp has been underachieving a bit in my opinion. Terrell Owens has been good, but he hasn’t really had a major impact in any of our games. Not to mention the dropped passes have absolutely killed us. Terry Glenn had an excellent first month, but his numbers have tailed off since. I give him an A-, because I’ve watched the tape and the defenses are respecting him as much or more as Owens. That being said, we really could use a few big plays from him in the 2nd half.

The tight ends have played decent. Witten’s numbers have improved since Romo became the starter. Fasano has been solid as a blocker, but his receiving skills haven’t been used as much as I would have hoped for a 2nd round pick. Although, there are only so many balls to go around. Fasano’s impact will probably be felt more in the post Owens/Glenn era when we won’t have near the WRs we have now and we will need to rely more heavily on both tight ends.

Offensive Line: C+

Flozell Adams: C
Kyle Kosier: B-
Andre Gurode: B-
Marco Rivera: C+
Marc Colombo: B

This unit is doing a fairly good job this season. The have been superb at opening up running lanes for Jones and Barber. The pass blocking has been a little shaky, but nothing like last season. The insertion of Tony Romo seems to have off-set any weaknesses this unit has in that area.

Flozell Adams has had an up and down season. He seems to be getting his footing back under him though. Kyle Kosier has been a solid upgrade at LG. He makes a few mistakes, but he was definitely a good addition. Andre Gurode has done a good job at center. His mental mistakes have been minimal, and there is no doubt he has more power behind his blocks than Al Johnson ever did. Marco Rivera is better than he was last season, but he isn’t the Pro Bowl guard he once was. He is no better than an above average starter. Marc Colombo is probably the team’s biggest surprise. He has done an excellent job this season both run and pass blocking. The great thing is that he is only 27, and he will only get better the stronger he gets.

OFFENSE TOTAL: B-

It is hard to be too hard on this offense when you consider we have averaged nearly 28 points a game. You definitely can’t complain with that point production, but the amount of turnovers from the Bledsoe led offense made that group a lot less attractive than one might think. We have only turned the ball over once in Romo’s two starts. If we can continue to put up the same amount of points, while limiting the turnovers then we will have a truly elite offense.

COACHING: C+

I haven’t been too impressed with the Cowboys coaching staff this season. I know Terrell Owens is a distraction, but this team is too good to be 4-4. The penalties and lack of discipline are partly the responsibility of the coaches. I also think the defensive play calling has been too conservative. We need to start blitzing more. I know you can’t blitz every play, but considering our safeties can’t cover I would probably be sending them after the QB as much as possible. I would also like to see a few trick plays from the offense as well.

The Superbowl: Historically Known as the AFLNFL World Championship of Football (History &amp Trivia)

Digg me

The Superbowl is the ultimate championship match for the sport of American football. In the Superbowl, the National Football League (NFL) leading team meets the American Football League (AFL) leading team. The game takes place on Sunday afternoon which has became known as Superbowl Sunday and which has ultimately become marketed and treated as a national holiday.

The first Superbowl was held on January 15, 1967. The game was promoted as the AFL-NFL World Championship of Football Game but the cumbersome name didnt stick. Instead, the unofficial title, the Superbowl was used by fans and media. By the third match between the NFL and AFL in 1969, the name was officially changed to the Superbowl.

The Superbowl is probably best known for its advertisements than the actual football games. Historically the game is watched by over a billion viewers worldwide. And while the actual game play is often lackluster, with few exciting moments, the advertising campaigns that are launched throughout it are just the kind of moments that make the Superbowl party shine. In a world where thirty seconds of advertising time costs upwards of $2.5 million, they often generate more advance hype than the game match up itself.

The Superbowl attracts some of the top celebrities of the music industry to participate in a pre-game show, the singing of the national anthem and performing in the half-time show. For example, in 2006 the pre-game show contained performances by Joss Stone and Stevie Wonder; Aretha Franklin and Aaron Neville performed the national anthem; and, the Rolling Stones headlined the half time extravaganza.

Regardless of the game outcome, however, the Superbowl is the perfect time to host a get together for friends and family whether it be tailgating, a barbeque, or a full-blown party complete with party accessories, good food, and a whole lot of fun.

NFL Midseason Recap: The Road to Miami

0
Digg me

With the NFL season halfway over, its fair to say there have been a few surprises. Teams that were wonderful last year have already hung up the ol pigskin, resigning to the fact that the only way they will get into this years playoffs is either with a ticket or wire cutters. Teams that were weak last year have dug in their cleats, making a run at the postseason. And, perhaps in the biggest surprise of all, Al Davis is actually still alive.

For as many surprises there have been, there have also been a few things that werent exactly shocking: Indianapolis is good, Arizona is bad, Terrell Owens is still acting like a spoiled child, bent on taking his ball leaving.

After 8 NFL games done 8 to go, here is the breakdown of what has happened so far

AFC West
The AFC West is the strongest division in , with three teams possessing winning records. While the Denver Broncos the San Diego Chargers are tied for first, they still have to play each othertwice. Denver must also play the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving in Arrowhead, a venue where Denver is routinely made to look like Turkeys. San Diego, while their schedule is rather soft with Oakl, Arizona, Buffalo in the wings, may have a hard time beating Denver. This is mainly because Denver owns Marty Schottenheimer, beating him on numerous occasions. Only Denver can DRIVE him crazy.

KC, after starting off the season at .500, was absolutely destroyed by the Steelers. However, theyve rebounded to a record of 5-3. With a moderate schedule, the remainder of the season could go either way for KC. The Oakl Raiders, on the other h, are playing like people pretty much expected: horribly. At 2-6, their season is all but over.

Whether Denver, San Diego, or KC finishes first, there is a great chance that both Wild Cards will come from the AFC West. A division once known for weakness, this division is now the most competitive.

AFC North
The biggest surprise in this division, if not the entire NFL, is Pittsburghs fall from grace. Formerly known as the World Champions, the Steelers are now just a symbolof disappointment. After losing to Denver in week 8, their hopes for making the playoffs are gone. Perhaps it just wasnt their year or perhaps the source of Ben Roethlisbergers talent was in his now removed appendix. Whatever the reason, nothing - not even Bill Cowhers jaw - is enough to scare these players back into winning. They will spend January watching the playoffs from the couch, next to another team in their division, the Clevel Browns.

On the upside of this division, the Baltimore Ravens the Cincinnati Bengals claim the top two spots. Pending an outbreak of bird flu, the Ravens should clinch this division as they are sitting strong at 6-2. The Bengals, having a year laden with mediocrity, could easily miss the playoffs. The fact that there is turmoil in the locker room, as Chad Johnson (Terrell Owens, Jr.) stirs the pot, isnt helping.

AFC South
In the southern part of the AFC, its no surprise that the greatest team belongs to Indianapolis. As the only undefeated team remaining in the NFL, Indianapolis has a chance to go unbeaten. However, the Colts have been in this situation before..yes, weve all seen this episode. Whether or not they will choke, or be taken out by a hit man hired by the 1972 Dolphins, remains to be seen.

Jacksonville, a team that many had high hopes for, is staying steady at 5-3. However, in the AFC, the playoff race is going to be tight the Jaguars cant afford to lose to teams they should beat, like the Houston Texans.

At the bottom of the division, the Tennessee Titans the Houston Texans sit, counting the days until the season ends. Despite a few exciting plays from college stout Vince Young, Tennessee just doesnt have the talent to hang in this league. Houston, as usual, is left with one of the worst records in the NFL, perhaps ruing the fact that they didnt draft Reggie Bush. Gary Kubiak, in his first year as the Houston coach, needs to be careful about having a losing record. In Texas, they execute people for that.

AFC East
The New Engl Patriots sits on top of their division. Their clinching a playoff berth is almost guaranteed, as certain as Bill Belichick wearing a hooded sweatshirt to every game. This is because New Engl is talented: Here’s the story, of a man named Brady, who simply doesnt know how to lose.

Behind them at .500 sits the New York Jets, a team that is merely taxing on the runway rather than soaring through the skies. While they still have a slight chance at making the playoffs, the only teams theyve beat so far are teams that are bad. The playoffs are going to be hard for the Jets to l..

Buffalo Miami, rounding out the division at 3-5 2-6 respectively, are done for the year. Buffalo is playing like they played in all four Super bowl losses while the Miami Dolphins have had a season marked by the plummeting of previously high expectations. Dante Culpepper, starting Quarterback at the beginning of the season, has been replaced, putting him in his very own Inferno.

NFC West
As the former NFC Champions, the Seattle Seahawks look like they have had their wings clipped: with injuries to Matt Hasselbeck Shawn Alexer, they kind of have. However, they should still make the playoffs they should be healthy be this time. Then, its anybodys game.

Behind Seattle are the St. Louis Rams, a team that started off hot has since lost three game in a row. At 4-4, the Rams still have a viable chance to make the playoffs, but probably wont clinch home field advantage: the other teams simply wont meet them in St. Louie.

San Francisco, as usual, is So 1990s having won only three games so far. While their record is dismal, they arent the worst in the division. That title belongs to the Arizona Cardinals. This team seems to have cashed in all of their chips after giving up a fourth quarter lead to the then undefeated Chicago Bears. They presently have the worst record in the NFL.

NFC North
Chicago looked to give Indianapolis a run for its undefeated money until the Bears lost to the Miami Dolphins. Looking more like Teddy Ruxpins than ferocious beasts, the Bears still have the best record in the NFC but the Miami game could be a preview of things to come. If Chicago continues to turn the ball over, other teams are going to make them into Bear Skin rugs.

Minnesota, at an even 4-4, has as good a chance to make the playoffs as the rest of the NFC second place teams. However, their instability at quarterback might prove to be a factor. Green Bay, at 3-5, likely needs to pack it in. Detroit, at 2-6, have made most of the teams theyve played look like Lion tamers.

NFC South
Drew Brees has made things look Big Easy in New Orleans, leading his team to a 6-2 record. Playing the first season since the devastation of Katrina, New Orleans has become a pseudo-version of Americas Team. Rooting for them is easy, as long as they arent playing against the team to which you pledge your allegiance.

Atlanta Carolina, at 5-3 4-4, are not playing as well as expected. While Atlanta appeared to be getting hot, they recently lost to Detroit. Carolina, predicted to be Super Bowl contenders at the beginning of the season, were dealt a blow with the injury to Steve Smith. With him back, a soft schedule, they could potentially catch New Orleans for first place. But, if they dont get hot, the Saints will go marching into the playoffs.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at a bad 2-6, are done for the year. They may as well walk the plank.

NFC East
The younger Manning brother is making the family name proud, leading the New York Giants to a 6-2 record first place in the NFC East. While they faired poorly against the Texans, barely beating them, this is a good team, rivaling the Bears for best team in the NFC. Behind them are the Dallas Cowboys, otherwise known as the sideshow to Terrell Owens. Marked by TOs ridiculous antics, several dropped balls, Dallas sits even at 4-4. In a close division it could go either way, it seems that the focus of this team should lie more on winning less on TO. When it comes to Mr. Owens, the Big Tuna should have him canned.

Philadelphia Washington round out the division at 4-4 3-5. While this is still anybodys Wild Card race, both of these teams offenses need to ignite, or the Wild Card will be dealt to someone else. Washingtons huge win over the Cowboys may be just what they needed.

For the majority of the teams, its still anyones gamethe season is only halfway over. But, as self-proclaimed experts of the NFL, we think we know what will happen. And so, we offer this prediction: Playing in this years Super Bowl will be, wait for it, one AFC team one NFC team. You heard it hear first, folks. Go ahead call your bookie.

Chicago Bears at New York Jets

It’s now or never for the New York Jets. Last week they beat the Patriots 17-14 in New England to go to 5-4 on the season. This week they are home to host the visiting 8-1 Chicago Bears. The Jets are just one game out in the ACF East and in possible contention for a AFC Wild Card spotif they win this week.

The Jets have a realistic shot at finishing 10-6 this season. They still have games against weak opponents such as Oakland, Green Bay and Houston. They also play Buffalo and Miami again. The Jets won the first meeting against both of those teams. A run to the playoff starts right now. They opened the door with the win against the Patriots. Now, they must get the ball rolling by beating the Bears.

The Bears are 8-1thanks to some gifts by opposing teamsand primed to enter the playoffs again. There’s a lot of concern growing about QB Rex Grosman. He’s looked absolutely horrible at timesmainly when he’s pressured. Last week they came back to beat the Giants 38-20.

The rest of the schedule doesn’t look that difficult. Their last 5 games are all against losing teamsVikings, Rams, Buccaneers, Lions and Packers. The Bears should be able to finish with 11-12 wins. If they beat the Jets, they could end up 14-2I don’t see them beating the Patriots in New England.

For the Jets, the plan is simple. Don’t turn the ball over and pressure the heck out of Grossman. If they can do that, they will win this game. The Bears need to protect Grossman and play outstanding defense. They should be plenty rested since their last game was in the Meadowlands (Giants) also. It’s a rare non-travel week for the Bears despite playing on the road.

Chargers at Broncos : Fight For Division Supremacy

It’s week 11 in the NFL and the Chargers and Broncos are both 7-2 in the AFC West. This week the two titans go at it in Denver. At stake is first place in the AFC West and potentially the division title. These two teams will square off once more on December 10 in San Diego.

The San Diego Chargers have won three games in a row, including an impressive win at Cincinnati last week. The Bengals were up 21-0 at one point, but the Chargers kept plugging away. The game quickly turned into an offensive shootout. I guess the defenses went on a tea break. The Chargers won the game 49-41.

While the victory was a great one, I’m a little concerned about the Chargers defense. They gave up 41 points. They also gave up 24 and 25 points in previous weeks to the Rams and Brownsand 27 to the Chiefs. They are going to face a stingy defense in the Broncos and the Charges defense must step up.

The Broncos have won two straight and six of their last seven. The lone loss was a heartbreaker at home to the Colts34-31. While their defense has been stellar, their offense is leaving a bit to be desired. They escaped at Oakland last week with a 17-13 victorycome on.

This could be a must-win for each team. Both teams have a couple of tough games ahead. They both play each other again and the Chiefs. Both have a couple of each games too. However, they each have one tough game without a common opponent. The Broncos play at home against the Bengals. Meanwhile, the Chargers travel to Seattle to face a tough Seahawks team at Qwest Field.

Whoever wins this game will have a one game advantageand that’s going to be very significant. Both of these teams could finish with nearly identical results the rest of the way.

Seattle Seahawks On The Move

This year has been one of turmoil for the Seattle Seahawks. It started with the Super Bowlthat was ripped from them thanks to poor officiating. When Shaun Alexander got the cover of the new Madden game, everyone knew it was going to be a rough season. Nothing happened at first, but then curse kicked in.

Alexander broke his foot and the MVP has been out ever since. To add to the pain, Matt Hasslebeck got injured and has been out as well. The Seahawks have been piecing together their offense with Matt Morris and Seneca Wallace. Despite the fact that many past Super Bowl losers haven’t returned to the playoffs the following year and despite all these issues, the Seahawks are on the move.

This past week they scored an emotional win over rival St. Louis in Seattle. Josh Brown kicked a game-winning field goal with almost no time left in the game to win it. The victory was vital, because it gave the Seahawks a two game lead in the NFC West. And since they swept the Rams, they own the tiebreaker, so it’s basically a three game lead.

The Seahawks are now 6-3 on the season and venturing off to San Francisco next week to play the 49ers. They have a three game lead with seven games left to play. Things are really looking up for them. The Seahawks and their fans got some good news this week when the team announced that Hasslebeck and Alexander would be practicing this week and could play in the 49ers game.

The Seahawks are poised to get back to the playoffs and do some damage. Their schedule has at least 4 very winnable games left on it, which leaves just 3 challenge-type games. Look for them to finish 10-6 to 12-4 and rush into the playoffs.
